Austria - From Salzburg to Tirol

8 days, 7 nights. Meeting in Salzburg, ending in Innsbruck.
From Mozart´s melodies to the alpine highlights: each day shows new visions and compositions, from the hospitality of the local people to the old-world charm of culture and architecture. Like in an alpine amphitheater you´ll be surrounded by impressions between flower-filled valleys and quiet, blue lakes and forests.

Day 1

After meeting in Salzburg at 1:30 pm (1 night),  you`ll enjoy the "city of music"  with a performance at the famous "Puppet Theatre", followed by a guided afternoon walk through the story-book like historic center.

Day 2

We move east into the "Salzkammergut" lake region  - often recognized as the setting for  The Sound of Music.

From Fuschl, a small likeside village, we walk through the woodlands of Elmau Valley to a farmhouse, where we sample homemade specialities.

Mozart´s melodies might be still in the air, hiking down from  the composer´s favorite place, overlooking Lake Wolfgang.

At day´s end, relax at your charming villa hotel in Gosau (2 nights).

Day 3

Boot up for a morning walk along the sparkling Gosau lakes -guarded by the mighty Dachstein massif- , heading for a tiny mountain hut for lunch.

A guided tour offers inside into history of the oldest community of Austria, Hallstatt; also known as "the  world`s prettiest lakeside village".

Days 4-5

After breakfast we start with a walk through the deepest gorge in the Eastern Alps, the Lichtensteinklamm.

Later, we travel into the Hohe Tauern National Park. In front of the dramatic backdrop of powerful glaciers and peaks are beautiful lakes, forests, alpine pastures. End of day comes in Krimml (2 nights).

A morning transfer leeds us to the Krimml Waterfall, the highest falls in Europe, and a rewarding hike through this historic pass.

cows Days 6-7

Today we cross the Gerlos Pass into the Land of Tirol, well known for its colorful folk customs and splendid mountain wonderland. The medieval town of Rattenberg invites us for a visit - then settling into the picture-perfect village of Alpbach (2 nights). Trails leading through meadows ful with flowers and herbs.

Day 8

We take a scenic walk through the countryside to Inneralpbach. A step back in time : we visit a historic farmhouse, preserved for hundreds of years, with complete furniture, tools and linens.

After lunch our  trip ends in Innsbruck, where we bid "Auf Wiedersehen"

Moderate, rolling terrain with ascents and descents, wooded and dirt paths, occasional rocks or loose stones.
